New York towns list more on the Register than most of the country (a typical New York town has 12.3 per 10,000 residents, the U.S. 2.4), so Stockbridge’s 0.0 sits below most of its state (10% of New York towns have fewer) while its 0 listings outnumber those of 23% of U.S. towns.

How sure. Graded on any two of the three inputs instead, the letter would range from C+ to A. The pre-1940 share is a Census survey estimate (±4.5 points). The founding year is the first post office, not a stated founding date.

How Stockbridge came to be

From Wikipedia’s history of Stockbridge.

The land surrounding where Stockbridge would be established was lived upon by "Stockbridge Indians" (as local settlers would refer to them), who had been relocated already to the New Stockbridge Indian Territory during the latter half of the 18th century, being told that this land was to be reserved for future tribal generations. The Stockbridge, refugees mainly of adjoining tribes in New York who had settled in the "praying town" of Stockbridge, Massachusetts, accepted an invitation of the Oneida people to live and share on their reservation in New York. Subsequent disagreements with White settlers caused many Stockbridge Indians to relocate to Indiana and later to Wisconsin, where they became the Stockbridge–Munsee Band of the Mohican Nation.
