01Eligibility and your account
You must be at least 13 years old to use TownRatings. Give accurate information, keep your password secure, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. You’re responsible for what happens under it.
02What our grades are, and aren’t
TownRatings’ grades, rankings and summaries are our opinions, calculated from public data by the method on How grades work. The data can be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and a grade can’t capture everything about a place. TownRatings is general information, not professional advice: check important facts with the official source, and don’t rely on TownRatings alone for decisions about where to live, buy, invest or send your children to school.
03Not an emergency or government service
TownRatings is an independent website, not a government service. Posts about local issues are community discussion, not official requests to any town department. In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number.
04Community conduct
Be a good neighbor. Don’t post anything unlawful, harassing, hateful, threatening, defamatory, deceptive or sexually explicit; don’t post spam or other people’s private information; don’t impersonate anyone; and don’t post material you don’t have the right to share. We may remove content and suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
05Your content
You keep ownership of what you post. By posting it, you give TownRatings a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, reproduce, adapt (for example, resize a photo) and distribute it in connection with operating and promoting the service. You confirm you have the right to share it. Things you post are public.
06Our content and other people’s
The site’s design, text, grades and code belong to TownRatings or its licensors. Data and images from other sources remain under their own terms and licenses, which we credit on the page. You may link to and share our pages. Don’t copy the site in bulk, scrape it in a way that burdens it, or try to get around its security or rate limits.
07Copyright complaints
If you believe something on TownRatings infringes your copyright, follow our DMCA policy. We close the accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances.
08Disclaimers and limitation of liability
TownRatings is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. To the fullest extent the law allows, TownRatings is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the site. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
09Indemnity
If your content or your breach of these Terms leads to a claim against TownRatings, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of that claim, to the extent the law allows.
10Ending your use
You can stop using TownRatings and close your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms. The sections on content licenses, disclaimers, liability and governing law survive.
11Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of New Hampshire, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be heard in the state courts in Strafford County, New Hampshire, or the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them elsewhere.
12Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We’ll post the new version here with a new effective date. Using TownRatings after a change means you accept it.
