The picture is mixed. Its lowest grade is for hazard risk (D−): FEMA rates its natural-hazard risk higher than 99% of U.S. communities, with inland flooding at the top. Health is its strong suit: residents are healthier than 76% of U.S. towns on CDC estimates. Homes run about $516K for a typical one, 4.9 times the Santa Rosa metro’s $105K median household income. Walkability is another plus: it is more walkable than two thirds of U.S. towns. All told, that adds up to a C overall, better than 28% of U.S. towns. That places it 419th of 841 in California. On history, just 33 of California’s 1,063 towns do better.
