What stands out about Sachse’s past
Read from the archive, the National Register and the record. The page puts what stands out first.
Sachse was founded by William Sachse, a European immigrant from Herford, Prussia (modern-day North Rhine-Westphalia), in 1845. Purchasing 640 acres (2.6 km2) from Collin County, Sachse erected the first cotton mills and gins in the county. After Sachse gave 100 feet of frontage through all of his holdings to the railroad in 1886, the railroad built a depot on the frontage and named the town Sachse. Since the depot was labeled 'Saxie', many old legal documents referred to the city as 'Saxie'. The flaw was corrected in 1892. The word Sachse comes from the German word for Saxon.
In 1845, according to Wikipedia’s history of the town. Sachse’s post office opened in 1876, and the census of 1960 counted 359 people here.
