Mattawa's Name Origin

I was reading that Mattawa was established in 1909 and I started wondering how our town got its name. I know that the name "Mattawa" is derived from the Ottawa word for "water town" or "paddle", but I'm curious to know more about the story behind it. Does anyone know more about the history of how Mattawa got its name?
