Is Homestead a good place to live?

Homestead gives you more for your money than most places: a typical home costs about $69K, less than a year of the Pittsburgh metro’s $76K median household income. It grades C− overall, 966th among Pennsylvania's 1032 graded towns. The low prices come with trade-offs. Its police reported 31 violent crimes reported to the FBI in 2025, a higher rate per resident than 100% of U.S. towns, and CDC estimates put its residents' health behind 95% of the country. On the plus side, few places in the country are easier to get around without a car. Homestead’s violent crime rate is 10.9 per 1,000 residents, against 0.7 in Pennsylvania’s towns and 1.6 across U.S. towns. Homestead has 3 places on the National Register. Among 529 Pennsylvania towns, just 1 have a higher property crime rate than Homestead.
