The town, home to 7,065 people, lies in California.

Is Piñon Hills a good place to live?

The data are hard on it. Where it falls short is incomes: the median household income is $68K, and 19% of residents live below the poverty line. It also trails on health: CDC estimates put its residents' health behind 87% of the country. Hazard risk is weaker too: FEMA rates its natural-hazard risk higher than 98% of U.S. communities, with earthquakes at the top. A typical home there costs about $457K, 5.1 years of the Riverside metro’s $90K median household income. All told, that adds up to a D− overall and a rank of 839th of 841 in California. That leaves it behind almost every U.S. town. Walkability is weaker too (D). Most errands need a car: it is less walkable than 89% of U.S. towns.
