Is Hawaiian Gardens a good place to live?

A town of contrasts. The weak point is cost of living: the typical home is worth about $644K, 6.7 years of the Los Angeles metro’s $96K median household income. Safety is weaker too: its police reported 83 violent crimes reported to the FBI in 2025, a higher rate per resident than 88% of U.S. towns. It also trails on hazard risk: FEMA rates its natural-hazard risk higher than 91% of U.S. communities, with earthquakes at the top. Walkability is its strong suit — it is more walkable than 93% of U.S. towns. Add schools to its strengths: its schools outperform 84% of the state's. Overall, that makes a C−, good for 490th of 841 in California. On that grade it does better than 20% of U.S. towns.
