Why does Belmont grade so well?

Belmont is one of the best-graded places in America: an A, 26th of 249 graded towns in Virginia. The median household earns $243K, residents are healthier than 98% of U.S. towns on CDC estimates, and its schools rank ahead of 88% of Virginia towns. The exception is cost of living: homes are expensive, about $846K for a typical one and 6.7 times the Washington metro’s $127K median household income. 77% of adults 25 and older hold a bachelor’s degree or more in Belmont, above both Virginia’s towns (44%) and U.S. towns (29%). Belmont is on the National Register of Historic Places. Only 9 of the 253 Virginia towns we compare have a higher median household income than Belmont.
