Liberty's Founding Story

I was just reading about the history of our town and I stumbled upon the fact that Liberty is a city in Montgomery County, Kansas. I've lived here for a while, but I'm curious to know if our newer residents know that our small town has been a part of this county for so long. Do you know any interesting stories about how Liberty became the city it is today?
