Jefferson's Unique History

I was reading about Jefferson's founding and I found it interesting that the town was actually incorporated in 1831, but then dis-incorporated just a year later in 1832, and has remained unincorporated ever since. I wonder if newer residents know about this unique aspect of our town's history, do you know the story behind why the citizens decided to dis-incorporate?
