Crime in Bédoin: the figures, without a grade

Recorded fraud reached 3.9 per 1,000 residents in Bédoin in 2025; the typical town its size saw 6.1. In Bédoin, the hidden counts would make up 25.9% of the Safety index if the Vaucluse average stood in for them, over the 25% we allow, so Bédoin has no Safety Grade and, without it, no overall grade. The figures published for Bédoin follow.

Why Bédoin has no Safety Grade

Share of the index resting on Vaucluse averages25.9% · limit 25%

Over 25%, no Safety Grade; over 10%, the grade says it is less certain.

SSMSI doesn’t publish a commune’s count when it’s small (five or fewer in at least one of the last three years), and publishes instead the average among the Vaucluse communes whose count is hidden, which can be well above or below Bédoin’s real figure. 5 of Bédoin’s 8 graded kinds are hidden in at least one year. With those averages in place, 25.9% of the index would be borrowed rather than counted, so Bédoin gets no Safety Grade: a grade is never mostly borrowed.

Well above the median of towns its size: theft without violence (6.4 per 1,000 against 4.2). None recorded in 2025: armed robbery, robbery without a weapon and drug dealing. Not published for 2025: other physical violence, sexual violence, vehicle theft, theft from vehicles, theft of vehicle parts and drug use.

Theft without violence, robbery without a weapon, theft of vehicle parts, fraud and drug offenses are shown for information but left out of the Safety Grade, which counts violence plus burglaries, vehicle thefts, thefts from vehicles and criminal damage per resident.

Counts mix units, as SSMSI publishes them: victims for violence, offenses for burglary and damage, vehicles for vehicle theft. That’s why the page never adds them into one “total crimes”.

Offenses recorded each year. n.p.: not published (small: five or fewer in at least one of the last three years).

How to read these numbers

What this data can and can’t tell you

  • Where offenses happen, not where victims live. SSMSI counts each offense in the commune where police or gendarmerie recorded it happening. Towns with shops, stations, a hospital or nightlife record more per resident, and visitors are part of that count but not of the population it is divided by.
  • An index, not a total. The kinds are counted in different units (victims, offenses, vehicles), so the grade adds their rates per 1,000 residents into an index and never shows a “total crimes” or a chance of being a victim.
  • Hidden counts. SSMSI doesn’t publish a commune’s count when it’s small (five or fewer in at least one of the last three years). In its place it gives the average among the département’s communes whose count is hidden; the grade uses that average, never zero, and a town gets no Safety Grade when over a quarter of its index would come from such averages.
  • Recorded, not all crime. Only offenses reported to or found by police and gendarmerie are counted. Reporting rates differ by kind: most vehicle thefts are reported, much family and sexual violence isn’t.

Questions about safety in Bédoin

Is Bédoin safe?

Bédoin has no Safety Grade, because too many of its counts aren’t published. What is published for 2025: 20 theft without violence, 12 fraud, 10 burglary and 7 criminal damage. Violence counts are mostly hidden: each was five or fewer in at least one of the last three years.

Why does Bédoin have no Safety Grade?

SSMSI doesn’t publish a count when it’s small (five or fewer in at least one of the last three years) and publishes a Vaucluse average in its place. For Bédoin, those averages would make 25.9% of the Safety index, over our 25% limit, so we don’t grade it: the letter would describe the département more than the town. Without a Safety Grade, Bédoin has no overall grade either; its other subjects are graded.

What is the most common recorded offense in Bédoin?

Theft without violence: 20 in 2025, shown for information, not in the grade. Then fraud (12), burglary (10) and criminal damage (7).
